Hi, Sorry for the delay, here’s BBR 18, which features a look at UK Asian cinemas 1991 style, Intermix and Alaap. I hope you enjoy the show. Prem Jolly was so right in his belief that there was a long term market for cinema showings of Indian films in the UK. Surely he is to be applauded as a resilient visionary, as it was the rise in multiplexes in the late 1990’s that really provided a concrete theatrical outlet for Mumbai product. The popularity of Asian films continued to rise and crept into Cineworld’s top ten, accounting for twenty percent of their screens by the 2000’s, providing a sizeable income to Mumbai. Having recovered during the VHS/DVD age and survived streaming, the pandemic has clearly provided a very significant new challenge. In his introduction Moey refers to Intermix as a new band. Onx Tamber is still producing and performing while the other band members are still in music but not together.
