(1350 CE) – about 70 years after the death of Imam an-Nawawi in the same city. Ibn al-Jazari memorised the Quran at the age of 13. He then began studying the different Qiraa’aat, and travelled to Hijaz and then to Egypt for this purpose. He also became well-versed in the other sciences, and was authorised by his teacher Ibn Katheer (the well-known Mufassir) to give Fatawa (legal edicts). Ibn al-Jazari became well-known for his knowledge, especially in the Qiraa’aat. He began to travel to teach, and his travels took him to Samarqand, Khuraasaan, Asfahaan, Sheeraaz, Basrah, Yemen, Hijaz. Ibn al-Jazari travelled back to Sheeraaz, and died there in 833 AH. (1429 CE). Works Ibn al-Jazari had written a large number of books on different subjects. His works in the Qiraa’aat are considered masterpieces in that science.
