An entire city had to disappear for a 275-meter-high dam. In northeastern Turkey, Yusufeli was relocated before the rising reservoir swallowed the old town. The new Yusufeli Dam is one of the tallest concrete arch dams in the world, stores around 2.2 billion cubic meters of water, and is intended to supply electricity to hundreds of thousands of homes. But behind these enormous figures are people, houses, streets, and memories that now lie underwater.
