The Lizard Crawl: A detailed locomotive study.
A way to move as close to the ground as possible. One very challenging way. In this video I share progressions, tips and ideas that have helped me understand this movement. Progressions: 1. Soft Bear 2. High Lizard - 3 point support 3. High Lizard - 2 point support 4. Twist and Reach 5. Twist and Reach with Pushup 6. Low Lizard - 3 point support 7. Low Lizard - 2 point support Key ideas are: ▶️ points of support - it becomes easier or harder depending on whether you use more points of support or less. if your centre of mass (hips, torso) are also further away from supports, it's harder. ▶️ contralateral rhythm - the lizard crawl requires you to understand the difference between crawling with an ipsilateral pattern - same hand, same side foot forward - versus a reaching hand with opposite foot motion ▶️ support as pivots - use your feet and hands as tools to change your centre of mass - if you have a flat hand, flat foot - it's hard to push your body in the direction you need it to go. if you position your feet and hands closer to your body, it's easier. if you reach further and wider, it's harder. The Lizard Crawl takes patience. Other than the coordination, you may find you are limited in progressing either via strength or mobility. If so, I found working on these separately helped a lot, then when I returned to the lizard crawl it was much easier. Many thanks to teachers such as Jackson Lennan, Jack White and Tejovra Inbaseelan who have guided me through this process. Questions?
