DISCVR Career Chat Spencer Garland of Brenda Arts
Creative technologist Spencer Garland’s approach to art is rooted in an interdisciplinary practice he calls Friction Makes Fire. As an artist, he moves seamlessly between sketches of monsters sprawled across copy paper with fat markers and 3D design suites. He believes in accessing the primal forms of expression in all of us while launching into the uncharted territory of exploring new technologies like AI generation and virtual reality. As an educator, he uses these premises to carve space for voices of often underrepresented students and creators in the multimedia landscape. In this career chat, Spencer will share some of his work, his techniques, and a bit of his philosophy that led him into the converging rapids of art, media, technology, and education. This won’t be one to miss!
