Solo on the Camino Portugués Central: Day 1 - 1,000+ Yr Old Monastery

Join me on Day 1 of my solo hike along the Camino Portugués Central route, starting from Porto and heading to Vairão. I covered 15.7 miles (25.2 km) through urban suburbs that transform into quieter paths. Many pilgrims skip the start of this route and opt for the Coastal option instead to avoid the roads. However, I didn't find it nearly as bad as I was expecting and was glad to walk this way in the end because of the over 1,000 year old monastery I stayed in. This albergue ended up being one of my favorites on my Portuguese Caminos. As a solo walker, it felt a little eerie walking at times with the route so quiet. However, I saw enough locals around to feel safe along the way. In this video, I share my first impressions of the Portuguese Way and my honest thoughts on this first stage out of Porto. I also share a key tip to help you on your own Camino! Stay tuned for more videos on my full 151-mile (243 km) trek to Santiago de Compostela over 10 days in May 2025.
