Stephanie is a veterinarian in Tenerife. Here, she treats animals that have been abandoned, abused, or simply left to fend for themselves. A modern veterinary practice? Not a chance. Often, there's a lack of medication, equipment, or supplies. So, improvisation is the order of the day. Despite this, Stephanie tends to injured horses and other emergencies with an impressive calm. For her, it's clear: those who can help also bear responsibility. That's why she's at the Tenerife Animal Sanctuary, where she's needed most – right in the heart of the animal community. Lea is a volunteer at the sanctuary. She had long wanted to do something meaningful in animal welfare. In Germany, however, her shift work made that impossible. So, she looked for an alternative – and ended up in Tenerife. Today, she volunteers at the sanctuary and, together with the team, cares for more than 400 rescued animals. What began as a volunteer effort has long since become much more. In our report, Lea shows why this place has become like a second home to her – and why animal welfare sometimes means getting up early, getting dirty, and still carrying on with a smile. And then there's Emma. Without her and her husband Eddo, this place wouldn't exist. She founded the Tenerife Animal Sanctuary – with the idea of ​​giving animals a second chance that would otherwise often have none.
