Entire BBC goes off air (30th June 2001)
I'm not the only one to have recorded this memorable summer 2001 evening when a power failure knocked all BBC channels off air, but here it is from a dodgy aerial in an East Devon seaside town with 12 year old me frantically switching between channels in fascination. Some of the breakdown music seems hilariously outdated even for the era (the one sounding like an 80s gameshow my favourite) with the bad signal knocking it out of tune a few amusing times, and credit especially to the BBC2 announcer who begs and pleads for forgiveness on the channel's behalf, as if 'I Love 1975' was this momentous programme in broadcasting history that must be observed.
