Evrimin En Tuhaf Hali/Yakınsak Evrim Nedir?
Have you ever looked at a rhino and said, "This thing looks like a dinosaur?" Someone who says this probably thinks of ceratopsian species like Triceratops as dinosaurs. Yes, when you look at it, they actually have a lot in common. Large horns, a large four-legged body, a large head… If you know even a little bit about taxonomy, you know how distant mammals and dinosaurs are. So, evolutionarily speaking, there's almost no connection between rhinos and Triceratops. So, how do we explain the obvious similarities? As you know, creatures classified in the same group or closely related to each other exhibit similar physical characteristics. Think of crocodiles. They're aquatic, large-mouthed, armored reptiles. The same description could be applied to their close relatives, such as alligators and gharials. After all, they all come from the same group. So, their similarities in appearance aren't all that surprising. You know what would be surprising? It would be quite surprising if a creature from a different group, not closely related to crocodilians in evolutionary terms, were so similar to the description of a crocodile. This is a phytosaurus. Its basic appearance is incredibly similar to modern crocodilian species. However, it's not a very close relative. Like crocodilians, phytosauruses had long snouts, conical teeth, low-to-the-ground bodies, and osteoderms covering their backs. So how could two species so unrelated be so similar? The answer is that creatures living in similar environments and similar shapes, even if they aren't evolutionarily related, can evolve to resemble each other. They adapt to their environment best that way. This is precisely why phytosaurus and crocodiles are so similar. This process is called convergent evolution, and in my opinion, it's one of the most fascinating and fascinating aspects of evolution. We can see examples of this at every point in Earth's history. In today's video, we'll discuss unrelated yet similar animals from both modern and prehistoric times that emerged as a result of convergent evolution. Enjoy!
