Considering a 55+ Community? Watch This Before You Buy
Have you ever looked at one of those beautiful 55+ communities with resort - style pools, pickleball courts, golf carts, gorgeous clubhouses, and a built-in social life and thought....maybe this is exactly where I should retire? I have too. I even seriously considered one of the beautiful Margaritaville style retirement communities in Florida. Or possibly The Villiages . But the more I thought about what I actually want from retirement, the more questions I started asking. What do the HOA fees really cost over time? How restrictive are the rules? Can your grandchildren come stay for the summer? Where do guests park? What happens if you want to travel for months at a time? How much control are you willing to give up for a beautifully maintained neighborhood? And what happens when Carl goes 5000 kelvin in a warm light community? In this video, I'm talking through the real considerations that changed my thinking about 55+ communities - from hurricanes and insurance costs to HOA rules, family visits, built-in community, loneliness, aging in place, healthcare, travel freedom, and whether I'd rather put my retirement money into another home.... or into experiences. I also share a very real story about an 11 year old boy driving his granddaddy's pickup truck around my Louisiana neighborhood, cussing at my dog, and the exact moment I realized I may be turning into my "get off my lawn" mother. This is not an anti 55+ community video. For many people , active-adult living may be exactly the right choice. But before making one of the biggest financial and lifestyle decisions of retirement, I think we need to ask ourselves a bigger question : Are we buying the retirement we truly want... or the one that just looks beautiful in the brochure? If you already live in a 55+ community, I would genuinely love to hear from you. What do you love? What surprised you? How restrictive are the rules? Can your grandchildren visit? Have you made friends? Are the fees manageable? Would you make the same decision again? Let's make the comments a real resource for anyone considering this lifestyle. Welcome to AttaGirl Reinvented.
