At the beginning and end of the planing process, only one of the rollers presses the wood onto the machine table. This creates the planer mark. It is as large as the distance between the planer block and the feed roller. The smaller the distance, the shorter the planer mark. Professional thickness planers have pressure bars directly on the planer block to prevent this.
