The Orange
The Orange is South Africa’s largest river, sourcing in the mystical Lesotho Highlands, and flowing west for over 1000km before spilling out into the icy Atlantic Ocean at the Namibian border. Crossing a diversity of cultures, settlements and ecosystems, the river collects and transports sediments from cross South Africa, and normally runs turbid year-round, hence its name. Recently its water has been flowing crystal clear, offering a unique window into a previously unseen freshwater world beneath the surface. The river is home to a rich diversity of freshwater life just waiting to be explored. Pack your goggles, head up the N7 and explore the Orange – one of Africa’s wildest and most diverse rivers.
