In The Price of Time, Edward Chancellor traces the history of interest from its origins in ancient Mesopotamia to the global credit booms of the twenty-first century. In conversation with writer and economist Sanjeev Sanyal, Chancellor demystifies the puzzles of interest rates, as the global financial system edges closer to yet another crisis. Edward Chancellor is a leading financial historian. After reading history at Cambridge and Oxford, Edward worked as an investment banker, financial journalist, and fund manager. He is the author of Devil Take the Hindmost: A History of Financial Speculation. In 2005, he published Crunch-Time for Credit?. His latest book is The Price of Time: The Real Story of Interest. Sanjeev Sanyal is currently a member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM). He was the Principal Economic Adviser to the Finance Minister for five years till February 2022 and the Co-Chair of the G20’s Framework Working Group. Sanyal was awarded the Eisenhower Fellowship in 2007 for his work on urban dynamics. In 2010, he was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in Davos. He is the author of several best-selling books, including Land of the Seven Rivers, The Ocean of Churn, India in the Age of Ideas, and the Indian Renaissance. Sanyal has also published over two hundred articles and columns in leading national and international publications.
