Saab Twin turbo V6 prototype build series #4

In this 4th episode we'll talk you through some of our findings about this prototype v6 twin turbo engine from Saab. This is the video some of you are very interested in and I'll summarize some of our findings and Saabs way of thinking below here: The things that became more clear to us while tearing down this engine. it was very very very early in the development cycle of creating a proof of concept. Saab took some short cuts to proof that the engine could make this high amounts of power. Saab was searching for the right way of building the engine. Some parts appear to either have been strenghtend compared to a normal 2.8/3.2 engine (as they are hand made) and for example the pistons seem to have been made of slightly different material. However we think that the shape compared to a normal B284 seems to be very similar with only small differences in the piston crown. The pistons are incorrect for DI engines (which this is). Saab was trying to see what needed to stay and what could go if this engine ever went into production. Besides that we found some concerning issues: transport or warehouse storage damage on the heads, the high pressure fuel pump assembly and the oil pan. some head bolts were broken off either due to the sheer pressure they experienced or due to the transport damage. the block is straight enough for a refurbishment of the top side and the cilinder hone is still good however there are a few signs of some rust inside. Which is understandable after say 16/17 years of no usage. Saab designed this engine for the Saab 95ng that was supposed to release in 2006, but GM.... (as with most things Saab). Ofcourse we'll be continuing this build and trying to finalize it and the next video we'll release will be a " budget " discussion and how these broken parts influence our budget but also our scedule for finishing this project. We hope you enjoy this video! A special thanks for helping out with the tear down for Lammertse Autotechniek in Oldenzaal. He makes some great V6 items definatly check out what he's all about! #saab #saab93 #saab95 #twinturbo #projectcar #prototype #diybuild
