Webinar: Use-case eBL - What is the electronic Bill-of-Lading?

In this webinar, Aljosja Beije (Director Blocklab), will explain more about the use-case electronic Bill-of-Lading. This working group has the ambition to be the first to digitize the transfer of title of a bill-of-lading (e-BLs). A successful proof-of-concept was executed at the end of May. During this trial, the transfer of a title for e-BLs based on the TradeTrust framework, was successfully performed. Simulated transactions carried out in the PoC were for the transfer of title from a shipper to a consignee for shipments from Rotterdam to Singapore and vice versa. This is an important first step in making the transition from paper to digital a reality. Apart from digitization of logistics, the development saves administration and paperwork for both shipper and consignee. What is a Bill of Lading? A Bill of Lading (BoL) is 'a document of title, a receipt for shipped goods, and a contract between a carrier and shipper'. It is issued by a carrier (or its agent) and passed to the shipper when the goods are loaded. As such, it functions as receipt of the goods described in the BoL by the carrier. This role even predates the Middle Ages; as early as Roman times this was common practice. Between ports, it serves as a contract of carriage for the goods being transported, before being presented at its destination port in order for delivery to occur.
