UK RailTours - The Brick And Tile 25/10/2025 Setting off Finsbury Park making its way up through Doncaster into Cleethorpes this vintage train Heading 50008 and 50007 with 37901 on the rear was a sight to see. The class 50 is a very rare sight to Cleethorpes. The Class 50 was built around the 1960s era and built to run West Coast Mainline. Powered by a 2,700hp English Electric 16CSVT engine, the 50 locomotives were capable of 100 mph, but the fleet gained a reputation for poor reliability early on. Nicknamed "Hoovers" due to the sound of their air-intake system, the Class 50 fleet was gradually withdrawn in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
