Building for the Future | Dwayne Stanley’s Irish Hereford Prime Farm

On his farm in Co. Tipperary, farmer member Dwayne Stanley is focused on building for the future, investing in both his system and his stock. Dwayne runs a calf-to-beef system, purchasing calves each spring to rear and finish. This year marks a major step forward with a new purpose-built calf shed for up to 120 calves, designed for calf health, performance and labour efficiency. Herefords remain central to the system valued for their docility, ease of management and ability to thrive off grass. Calf sourcing has also evolved. Moving away from marts, Dwayne now works with a small number of trusted local farmers, building strong relationships that allow him to influence bull selection with a clear focus on the genetic attributes of the Hereford sires to produce consistent, high-performing Hereford calves. The new shed combines smart design, ventilation and automated feeding technology which helps monitor performance and reduce workload. Most importantly, it’s about results, thriving calves and a system that works. As Dwayne says, when calves are settled, they are performing well and you know you’re on the right track.
