Eugénie de Montijo was Empress of the French from her marriage to Emperor Napoleon III, until the Empire was overthrown on September 4, 1870. Eugénie was considered the most fashionable woman in the world during her reign. She set the standards for fashion and restored the French luxury industry to what it is today.
