LEYENDAS DE GUATEMALA
**This publication is strictly for cultural dissemination, never for illicit enrichment. Please do not sell this file if you download it.** Sincerely, More from my Xela Héctor Gaitán Alfaro (1939-2012) Announcer, writer, and journalist, he was born in Guatemala City on January 25, 1939. He completed his primary studies at Casa Central School, Republic of Peru School, and Republic of Uruguay School. He attended secondary school at the Central Institute for Boys, and then entered the Novo Academy in Monterrey, Mexico, where he studied broadcasting and journalism. He also earned a degree in History from Francisco Marroquín University in Guatemala. His radio career began in 1959 at the station Voz de la Eterna Primavera (Voice of Eternal Spring) and the news program "Ventana Del Pueblo" (Window of the People). During that time, he worked at stations such as Radio Quetzal, Radio Jumay, and Radio Cristal, eventually joining Voz de las Américas (Voice of the Americas), where he developed the radio program "La Calle Donde Tú Vives" (The Street Where You Live). Later, he moved to one of Guatemala's most fondly remembered and long-established radio stations, La Chapinisima Ciro's Musical. The program also aired on other long-established stations such as Radio Fabulosa, part of the Emisoras Unidas network, and Radio Nacional de Guatemala (TGW). For a time, the program was broadcast on Radio Progreso, and he also developed the program "Hablemos de Guatemala" (Let's Talk About Guatemala) on Radio Ranchera, where a magazine of the same name was simultaneously published. In terms of publications, he authored the "Colección La Calle Donde Tú Vives" (The Street Where You Live Collection), with the first volume released in 1971 and five more volumes completed. It is worth noting the positive reception the books in the collection received. He has also written History of Guatemala in the 20th Century*, *Histories of Guatemalan Presidents*, among other publications, all under the Artemis Edinter publishing house. As part of his legacy to disseminate Guatemalan traditions, he has recorded cassettes and CDs of stories and oral traditions from the country since 1976, material widely used in Guatemalan schools and institutes. Among the awards he has received are second place in the *Stories and Legends of America contest awarded by Vox Populi in Germany in 1972, the Silver Lady award, given by the Voice of the Americas and Radio Ciro stations to best scriptwriter of the year in 1981, the Silver Star award for best radio program in Guatemala in 1988, and other recognitions throughout his career. Without a doubt, journalist, writer, and historian Héctor Gaitán Alfaro is a figure who has contributed greatly to the legends and traditions of Guatemala.
