A tragedy struck the La Victoria district after ten members of a family, including five children, died in a fire at their wooden house on Pisagua Street in the Manzanilla neighborhood. Relatives reported that the fire was started by unknown individuals who set fire to an electric motorcycle parked in front of the house, describing the victims as a stark example of the urban warfare plaguing the country. According to the families, 17 people lived in the approximately 80-square-meter house. The house was constructed of wood, and the family also sold mattresses, which were stored at the entrance. When the fire reached the mattresses, the flames spread rapidly, trapping several people inside. The day after the tragedy, family, friends, and neighbors held a vigil in memory of the victims. Outside the building, a large banner with photographs of the deceased was displayed, candles were lit, and prayers were offered amidst profound grief. The remains of the ten family members are being mourned under a tent erected in the area, where floral arrangements and expressions of solidarity continue to arrive. CALL TO THE AUTHORITIES While the Public Prosecutor's Office and the National Police continue their investigations to determine the cause of the fire and establish responsibility, the victims' families demanded justice and asked the authorities to ensure the case does not go unpunished. They also called for greater action from the Executive and Congress in the face of the growing insecurity and violence that, they assert, ultimately claimed the lives of an entire family.
