Monday Mids Ep. 7: Fuuka — Music Drama Mids or Missed Potential?

Welcome back to Monday Mids, where I review anime that land in the mid-tier zone instead of focusing only on the obvious classics. This episode covers Fuuka, a music romance drama that is solid overall, but comfortably sits in the 6/10 range for me. The plot gets a 6/10, partly because I can’t explain too much without spoiling where the story goes. What I will say is this: if you like a certain romance trope, this series may frustrate you because that trope does not get rewarded in the way you might expect. The animation gets a 7/10. It is clean, solid, and good enough for the kind of series this is, but it is not the type of anime built around flashy action scenes or moments that need amazing fluid animation. The characters also get a 7/10. They are not overly memorable, but there is decent development, a decent range of characters, and good interpersonal relationships among the band members. Overall, Fuuka lands at a 6/10. The characters and animation do pretty well, but the plot holds it back a little.
