AMAAL MALLIK On Bigg Boss, Salman Khan, Tseries, Anu Malik & Bollywood's Politics | In The Ring Ep

Music composer & singer Amaal Mallik sat down for a candid conversation with Filmfare's Editor-In-Chief Jitesh Pillai about his major Bollywood hit songs, issues with the music industry, his time inside the Bigg Boss house and his bond with father Daboo Malik. The Sooraj Dooba Hain hitmaker talks about the support he got from Salman Khan & Tseries' Bhushan Kumar while kickstarting his career in mainstream Bollywood and adds how over the years he has realised that he doesn't want to become a puppet for a music label that bounds an artist by contracts and ends up affecting the creative freedom of the musician. Amaal expresses his distaste for remixes of original songs in films and if at all he ends up remaking a track then it has to be something similar to creating Mere Dholna 2.0 from Bhul Bhulaiyaa, which he explains was one a kind experience given it was Pritam's original composition. Furthermore, Amaal highlights the constant comparison with his younger brother Armaan Malik that he experiences and sites this as the reason for his decision to appear on the reality show Bigg Boss, in order to separate his identity from being a 'Malik'. He states that many came to know of him due to Bigg Boss while some of his fans mention that its his songs from the biopic MS Dhoni: The Untold Story & Badrinath Ki Dulhania that he is recognised by. He mentions that carrying the weight of the legacy of grandfather Sardar Mailk & uncle Anu Malik has been difficult yet he finds his peace and is content with whatever he has achieved so far. Mallik goes on to say that now he looks forward on collaborating with filmmakers & production houses directly and not via music labels and that he is capable enough to survive in this space even after rejecting some of the work that comes his way. He even expresses his happiness when asked about his take on singer Arijit Singh's retirement from the mainstream music industry and creating music independently - "Arijit did express his dissatisfaction about the nature of songs in the industry today..." says Amaal.
