Through the return of Roger Rouvier, a 19-year-old who came back to his family for a few days before his military service, the report paints a portrait of a village that is emptying out. Around the family table, the young people talk about the future, work, leaving for the city, but also about boredom, loneliness, and the lack of social interaction. Sainte-Croix now has only a few shops, a school with 13 children, few forms of entertainment, and a community life that is gradually fading away. The documentary also shines a light on Robert Rouvier, Roger's father and mayor of Sainte-Croix, faced with an impossible choice: remain true to the land or accept the upheaval heralded by the EDF dam project. In the Verdon Valley, the best farmland is at risk of being flooded. The inhabitants—landowners, employees, and artisans—are wondering: what will become of their houses, their fields, their jobs, their village? Amidst lavender fields, truffles, ruins, vanished trades, and debates on land-use planning, this rare documentary tells the story of rural France before mass tourism and before the Sainte-Croix lake. A valuable archive on rural exodus, the modernization of the country, and the human cost of progress. 👉 To see other rare testimonies of French society from the past:    / @inasociete   Also, consider subscribing to all the INA channels:    / @inaofficiel      / @inahumour      / @inaarditube      / @inamireilledumas      / inaculte      / @inahistoire      / @inapolitique      / @inareportages   ***** Information about comments ***** On YouTube channels, you are free to express your opinion, even if it is critical.
