The flight attendants (young, smiling, and in impeccable uniforms) served you lobster thermidor, steak with béarnaise sauce, exquisite desserts, and champagne in real crystal glasses. And yes… smoking was permitted freely: cigarettes, cigars, and even pipes, with the smoke wafting through spacious aisles where you could stroll or chat as if in a luxurious lounge. 🌍 From Barajas Airport to New York, Caracas, or Palma de Mallorca, flights brought glamour, but also the tourism boom that transformed Spain. From 6 to over 24 million visitors in a decade, all thanks to those planes that connected the country to the world. It was slower, more expensive, and less safe than today… but infinitely more special. 😢 Today, when we board a low-cost flight and are given a sad snack, we close our eyes and remember that nostalgia: the smell of tobacco and hot food, the emotional goodbyes at the gate, the feeling that flying was experiencing something grand.
