Until recently, this small resort town was a closed military area. After World War II, access was restricted for many years, and the last military installations were finally handed over to civilian authorities only in 1996. (hel-miasto.pl) Today, Hel is a completely different place. Military fortifications remain, museums remain, a lighthouse remains operational, and wide sandy beaches on the Baltic Sea are nearby. This is precisely why this small town so uniquely combines military history, nature, and the atmosphere of a true seaside resort. In the second part, I'll share everything I liked most about Hel.
