Liz Stringer - Wollongong - March 23 2023

After participating in Midnight Oil’s Resist Tour, Liz Stringer and William Crighton decided to go out on the road together for a co-headline tour. And a good number of those who had seen them on The Oils’ tour took the opportunity to get to know their music better, myself included. We weren’t disappointed. It was a terrific double bill. Liz and her band were up first. Except as a backing vocalist, I hadn’t any knowledge of her musical skills until I decided to go to this show and started listening to her albums. I was very pleasantly surprised, especially by her most recent album, “First Time Really Feeling”, which is excellent. On the night, I was also greatly impressed with her guitar playing. I recorded four songs from her set, as well as the encore she did with William: Casey (00:32) Half-Filled Cup (05:30) Dangerous (11:02) First Time Really Feeling (15:20) Golden Age (21:58) So I now know Liz Stringer is much, much more than just a backing vocalist. Not only is she a great singer and guitar player, but she is also a terrific songwriter. I’ll definitely be following her career from now on.
