Jeannie with the Light Brown Hair
Title: Jeannie with the Light Brown Hair Composer: Stephen C. Foster Transcribed by Jascha Heifetz Performed by Daniel Ziesemer & Jacob Bernhardt It is generally supposed that Stephen Foster was singing of his wife, Jane, when he wrote Jeannie with the Light Brown Hair. The song was published in June of 1854 and for many years was slow to gain popularity. Today it is one of Foster’s best loved songs. Jascha Heifetz masterfully transcribed this song for the violin with piano accompaniment. Notice the canon of the melody between the violin and piano in the second verse.
