‘The Platinum Years’ was on the programme for the Lower Hutt SCD Club’s 70th Anniversary ball, held in the Knox hall, Lower Hutt, New Zealand. The dance was devised especially for the occasion by Chris Totton, one of the club’s tutors. As shown in the video, a demonstration set dances ‘The Platinum Years’ once through, with Chris dancing as first man. And then everyone is invited to dance. Live music was by Wild Heather: Anne-Marie Forsyth, Lynne Scott, Mary McDonald and Sharlene Penman. The Platinum Years 64 bar Medley (S32 + R32) for 3 couples in a 4 couple longwise set. Suggested Music: Six Mile Road From Pitlochry (The Sunday Class Vol 1) Strathspey: 1 - 8 First couple set, half turn with both hands moving down to face in the middle in second place, set, and turn left hand to face first corners. Second couple step up on bars 3-4. 9 - 12 First couple with first corners dance corner pass and turn, and pass right shoulder to face second corner. Corners turn with both hands. 13 - 20 First couple with second corners dance half reel of 4 on the diagonal, and pass right shoulder to face third corner position. First couple with third corner position dance half reel of 4 on the diagonal, and pass right shoulder to face fourth corner position. 21 - 24 First couple with fourth corner position dance corner pass and turn, and pass left shoulder to finish back-to-back, lady facing up, man facing down. Corners turn with both hands. 25 - 28 First lady with third couple at the top, first man with second couple at the bottom, circle 3 hands round to the left. 29 - 32 Releasing hands, third man followed by third and first ladies, second lady followed by second and first men, continue to chase clockwise round to own side in progressed places. Repeat in Reel time. 1 - 8 First couple set, turn with the right hand moving down to face in the middle in second place, set, and turn left hand to face first corners. Second couple step up on bars 3-4. 9 - 12 First couple with first corners dance corner pass and turn, and pass right shoulder to face second corner. Corners turn with right hands only. 13 - 20 First couple with second corners dance half reel of 4 on the diagonal, and pass right shoulder to face third corner position.
