Mussorgsky/Rimsky-Korsakov, 'Night on Bald Mountain' - Thomas Graff

Night on Bald Mountain - Ночь на лысой горе Modest Mussorgsky - Модест Петрович Мусоргский (1839 – 1881) /Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov - Николай Андреевич Римский-Корсаков (1844 – 1908) arranged for piano by Konstantin Chernov (1865 -1937) Mussorgsky’s now-famous work first appeared as a contribution to the collaborative ‘Mlada’ opera project in 1872. Repeatedly rubbished by his mentor, Balakirev, it was never performed in Mussorgsky’s own lifetime, and the more well-known arrangement of the work is one of Rimsky-Korsakov’s many ‘completions’ after Mussorgsky’s death. The eponymous mountain is Mount Triglav in southern Russia, where a clan of witches gather on Walpurgis Night to engage in satanic ritual. Eventually, they are interrupted by the arrival of dawn, and the ringing of the church bells. Performed, recorded and edited by Thomas Graff Recorded at Buscot Park Theatre by kind permission of Lord Faringdon and family.
