Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, popularly known as GERD is a digestive disease that occurs when stomach acid flows frequently back into the tube connecting to the mouth and stomach (oesophagus). The most common symptom of GERD is heartburn (acid indigestion). Usually, it feels like a burning chest pain that starts behind the breastbone and moves upward to the neck and throat. Many patients say that it feels like the food is coming back into the mouth, leaving an acid or bitter taste. Apart from this, other symptoms of GERD include nausea, bad breath, breathing problem, vomiting, problem swallowing, a lump in the throat, and wearing away of tooth enamel.
