It spans approximately 40 acres and has been under construction for several years. This depot is vital for future metro development in Chennai's western front, including potential extensions to Parandur or new routes along the Outer Ring Road. "Intersections" refer to direct connectivity facilities between metro stations and bus terminals. For example, at Poonamallee Bus Depot and Iyyappanthangal Bus Depot, passengers will be able to directly access the bus stand from the metro station without needing to exit onto the street. The metro line in the Kumananchavadi and Karayanchavadi areas features a double-decker flyover. The metro trains will run on the upper deck, while vehicles will use the lower flyover. To accommodate this unique design, the viaduct's height in this section averages 22 to 25 meters, significantly higher than the usual 12-18 meters. This also necessitated deeper foundations, extending up to 40 meters. The progress varies by station. Poonamallee Bypass and Poonamallee Bus Depot stations are about 50-60% complete. Mullaithottam, Karayanchavadi, Kumananchavadi, Kattuppakkam, and Iyyappanthangal Bus Depot stations are generally 60-70% complete. Thelliyagaram (Ramachandra), Chennai Bypass Crossing, and Porur Junction stations show more advanced progress, being approximately 80-90% complete. During trial runs, the metro administration meticulously checked for issues like clicking sounds that have been reported on some existing metro lines. They have installed double resilient fasteners on the tracks of this new route, which is expected to significantly reduce vibrations and ensure a smoother, quieter ride for passengers.
