Edith Piaf: La Voz Más Famosa del Mundo… y el Amor que la Destruyó para Siempre
Edith Piaf was one of the greatest and most heart-wrenching voices of the 20th century. The world remembers her as the soul of Paris, the woman of *La Vie en Rose*, the little sparrow in a black dress whose voice made millions of people weep with love in every language. But behind that voice that sang of eternal love hid a woman whom life almost never allowed to love without punishment. A woman who, according to legend, was born on a Parisian sidewalk, who grew up in poverty and neglect, and who ended up consumed by her own wounds, dying at forty-seven with the body of an old woman. Abandoned by her mother, raised for years in her grandmother's brothel, and blind as a child, Edith staked everything on the only thing she had: her voice. And with it, she conquered the world. She filled the grand theaters of Paris, triumphed at New York's legendary Carnegie Hall, launched the careers of artists who would become legends, and gifted humanity with some of the most beautiful songs ever written. And that same woman would collapse on stage, ravaged by morphine and alcohol, haunted by guilt and ruin, singing until the very end even though singing was killing her. In this story you will discover her birth into the poverty of Belleville and the mother who abandoned her, her childhood years among the women of her grandmother's brothel, the blindness she suffered as a child and the "miraculous cure" before Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, the years singing in the streets with her acrobat father and later with Momone, her first love and little Marcelle, the daughter she lost at the age of two and the guilt that always haunted her, her discovery by Louis Leplée who christened her "La Môme Piaf," the murder of her protector and the shadow of suspicion that almost destroyed her, her transformation alongside Raymond Asso and the birth of the little black dress, her courage in helping prisoners escape during the Nazi occupation, the great love of her life—the boxer Marcel Cerdan—and the Hymn to Love he wrote for her, the plane that crashed on its way to her and the impossible night she went out to sing for a man who had just died, her descent into morphine, the car accidents, the Mediums and spiritualism, her marriages to Jacques Pills and the young Théo Sarapo, her final resurrection with *I Regret Nothing*, her death on the same day as her friend Jean Cocteau, the Mass the Church denied her, and the funeral that brought Paris to a standstill. A story of glory, love, pain, and an iron will: that of a woman who lost absolutely everything—her mother, her daughter, love, her health—and yet stood before the world to swear she regretted nothing. The hidden life of the Little Sparrow of Paris, the voice that transformed every wound into song, and whose tomb in Père Lachaise remains, more than sixty years later, one of the most visited on the planet. 📖 Based on real historical events.
