designTimber - Chowdhury Walk
The designTimber 2026 series continued with Chowdhury Walk, winner of the Residential Award at the 2025 Wood Awards. Timber-first, climate-friendly, and affordable, this housing project in East London uses panelised CLT to create eleven new homes: seven for social rent and four for private sale. Part of a programme by Hackney Council to develop small, underused sites and address the housing crisis, Chowdhury Walk transforms a plot once occupied by garages and ad-hoc car parking into sustainable, high-quality and much needed homes. In this webinar, we hear from the structural engineer and local authority client who explore the design, delivery and impact of this exemplary timber social housing scheme. Presenters: Richard Heath – Director, Momentum Engineering Ken Rorrison – Head of Regeneration Strategic Design, Hackney Council
