Sheep shearing, a spring tradition, has begun at Rokko Mountain Ranch in Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture. Sheep's wool doesn't regrow and continues to grow, so if it grows too long, they can't regulate their body temperature properly, leading to illness, and the weight of their wool can make it difficult to move if they fall. Therefore, every year at Rokko Mountain Ranch, during this warmer season, they shear the wool of sheep that are over one year old. On the first day, April 6th, four zookeepers worked simultaneously, shearing each sheep in about 15 minutes. The amount of wool shorn averages about 3 kilograms, and some of it will be used as material for wool craft workshops held at the ranch. Children who visited said: "At first they were big, but after they were shorn they became a little smaller, which surprised me." "I saw some shorn sheep over there, and for a moment I thought they were goats."
