Being Without A Self

What are we, really? Are we souls inhabiting bodies? Are we merely biological machines? Is there a permanent self hidden somewhere behind our thoughts, memories, and experiences? In this Dharma talk, The Backyard Buddhist explores one of the most profound and misunderstood teachings in Buddhism: the doctrine of non-self (anattā). Drawing from the teachings of the Buddha, Nāgārjuna, Dōgen, Thích Nhất Hạnh, Śāntideva, and others, we'll examine how Buddhism approaches questions of identity, consciousness, impermanence, emptiness, dependent origination, and awakening. Far from being a philosophy of nihilism, Buddhism offers a radical vision of interconnectedness and liberation. What if freedom doesn't come from discovering an eternal self, but from realizing we've never been separate from reality in the first place? Join me as we explore what Buddhism really says about being, selfhood, and the nature of existence itself. 📖 Read more from The Backyard Buddhist: https://thebackyardbuddhist.substack.... 🎥 Subscribe on YouTube:    / @backyard-buddhist   #Buddhism #Zen #SotoZen #DharmaTalk #Anatta #NoSelf #Emptiness #Sunyata #DependentOrigination #Dogen #Nagarjuna #Meditation #Mindfulness #BuddhistPhilosophy #Spirituality #Awakening #TheBackyardBuddhist Keywords: Buddhism, Buddhist Philosophy, Zen Buddhism, Soto Zen, Anatta, Non Self, No Self, Emptiness, Sunyata, Dependent Origination, Interbeing, Dogen Zenji, Nagarjuna, Buddha Nature, Consciousness, Meditation, Dharma Talk, Spiritual Awakening, Buddhist Teachings, Mahayana Buddhism, Theravada Buddhism, Vajrayana Buddhism, Mindfulness, Impermanence, The Backyard Buddhist
