Ragnarr Loðbrók is a legendary Norse warrior and king celebrated in medieval poems and sagas for his courage, seafaring raids, and battles against powerful foes. According to the traditions surrounding him, he won fame by slaying a great serpent, earned the name Loðbrók ("Shaggy Breeches"), and became the father of renowned sons such as Bjǫrn Járnsíða, Ívarr inn Beinlausi, and Sigurðr Ormr-í-auga. Captured by King Ælla of Northumbria and cast into a pit of serpents, Ragnar met death without fear, famously foretelling that his sons would avenge him. His deeds and final words became some of the most enduring legends of the Norse heroic tradition.
