El Callejón del Carmen nació como un proyecto de revitalización urbana, una vibrante vía peatonal dedicada al arte y a la identidad de Santiago (presidida por la estatua de bronce del músico Miguel Matamoros). Cuando un lugar concebido para el encuentro y el intercambio se reduce a unos pocos puestos aislados, la discrepancia entre lo que fue y lo que es genera una profunda nostalgia. ¿Se debe este sentimiento a la compleja realidad que vive Cuba actualmente? ¿O es que el calor sofocante del día vacía las calles, haciendo que el esfuerzo por atender al público resulte poco rentable para los artesanos que aún permanecen en el lugar? Callejón del Carmen was born as an urban revitalization project, a vibrant pedestrian thoroughfare dedicated to art and Santiago's identity (overseen by the bronze statue of musician Miguel Matamoros). When a place born for encounter and exchange is reduced to a few isolated stalls, the discrepancy between what was and what is generates a sense of profound nostalgia. Is this feeling due to the complex reality Cuba is currently experiencing?
