Some of the most convenient, accessible, and inexpensive ties for green shoots are rings cut from used women's pantyhose. Moreover, ties made from pantyhose offer a number of unique advantages over other types of ties: 1. They don't slip along the wire and securely hold the shoot in place; 2. They allow you to tie up young, herbaceous shoots; 3. They pull shoots in the desired direction, like a grape vine tendril, ensuring straight growth; 4. They allow you to pull severely deviated shoots to the wire in several stages, significantly reducing the risk of shoot breakage at the base; 5. They are able to hold the grape shoot always under the node, since the length of the garter is widely adjustable.
