It’s going to take a while, and you’ll end up with a few broken joints from putting on and taking off the clips, but it’s not difficult, you’ll see. The Mini’s roof isn’t like that of many of today’s cars. This roof is nothing more than a rectangular piece of fabric, without any preforms, and it only comes with some strips to attach a series of metal rods. What’s the point of those metal rods? To give the fabric a certain amount of tension. And I say “certain” because you’re going to have to apply the real tension yourself, with your little hands, with lots of pliers, and, above all, with lots of superglue. Pull here, pull there, remove that clamp, add those thousand others, be careful with that curve, watch those scissors, be careful what you cut, wow, I'm getting really high from the contact adhesive, wash your hands thoroughly so you don't leave marks on the fabric, etc. These are just a few of the hundreds of phrases that will run through your head if this is your first time upholstering the Mini's headliner. But don't worry, you'll see in the video that, even with your fears, upholstering this headliner isn't complicated.
