Codebreaker (Official Audio) - BLAZAC - What they did to Alan Turing

A song about Alan Turing (1912 – 1954), the English mathematician, computer scientist, logician, cryptanalyst who devised techniques for speeding the breaking of German ciphers and played a crucial role in cracking intercepted messages that enabled the Allies to defeat the Axis (Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy and the Empire of Japan) powers in WW2. The track focuses on the injustice he was subjected to and his tragic death, after he gave his country such great contributions with his genius. In 1952, Turing was prosecuted for homosexual acts, as homosexuality at that time was illegal. He accepted hormone treatment, a procedure commonly referred to as "chemical castration", as an alternative to prison. Turing died on 7 June 1954, aged 41, from cyanide poisoning. An inquest determined his death as suicide. He was very influential in the development of theoretical computer science, providing a formalisation of the concepts of algorithm and computation with the Turing machine, which can be considered a model of a general-purpose computer. Turing is widely considered to be the father of theoretical computer science. The cognitive scientist Douglas Hofstadter wrote about Turing: "Atheist, homosexual, eccentric, marathon-running mathematician,Turing was in large part responsible not only for the concept of computers, incisive theorems about their powers, and a clear vision of the possibility of computer minds, but also for the cracking of German ciphers during the Second World War. It is fair to say we owe much to Alan Turing for the fact that we are not under Nazi rule today." His portrait appears on the Bank of England £50 note, first released on 23 June 2021 to coincide with his birthday. *** LYRICS A mind so vast yet justice forgot He gave them his genius, betrayal is what he got Codebreaker Codebreaker Hormones forced to twist the frame Punished by those who didn't like love's name Chemical castration, a nation's disdain Codebreaker He gave them the keys, they thanked him with pain Forced hormones on the man who changed the game Chemical castration, a nation's shame Codebreaker Codebreaker A mind so vast yet justice forgot He gave them his genius, betrayal is what he got Codebreaker Codebreaker Hormones forced to twist the frame Punished by those who didn't like love's name Chemical castration, a nation's disdain Codebreaker He gave them the keys, they thanked him with pain Forced hormones on the man who changed the game Chemical castration, a nation's shame Codebreaker Codebreaker Alan the cipher, the keys in his hand Yet his life was erased by his own homeland Alan Turing Codebreaker *** #alanturing #musicvideo #hiphop #hiphopmusic #gayhistory
