Inside Bobbi Kennedy's Primitive Country Home in Indiana | Photographed for Country Sampler
Bobbi and Bob Kennedy have never needed much time to make a house feel like home. After decades of moves with the military, that's a skill you develop — and Bobbi has turned it into an art form. Settled now in Indiana and closer to family, the Kennedys found a newer two-story home and did what Bobbi does best. She saw past the conventional lines and the standard finishes and got to work. Sage green paint unified the brick and siding exterior. Barn style shutters and vintage lanterns changed the whole conversation at the curb. And inside, off-white walls and shiplap became the quiet backdrop for one of the most beautifully layered primitive collections we have had the pleasure of photographing. Bobbi's eye for scale and display is remarkable. Her barn reds and deep blues run like a thread through every room — in coverlets, checks, plaids and textiles that feel completely at home alongside her rustic wood furniture and antique collections. Buckets, crocks, wooden bowls, baskets, folk art houses — each one placed with intention and confidence. Halfway through, Bobbi joins us herself — sharing the story behind one of her most beloved pieces, and it is as charming as the home itself. And don't miss the bedrooms — Bobbi's pattern mixing with barn red checks and coverlets is fearless and beautiful. And the upstairs sitting room, a former bedroom reimagined into the coziest little country retreat. This is a home that rewards a slow look — there is something to discover in every corner.
