February 14 marks 50 years of diplomatic relations between Mexico and the People’s Republic of China. A historic milestone for Mexico, whose current government has pledged “ever-closer relations with Beijing'' as a foreign policy goal. It will be marked by special events in the country’s Senate, as well as celebrations from academic and cultural organizations around the country. As China establishes closer ties with Latin, Central, and North American nations, what are the potential benefits? Why are more nations in the region embracing China?
