What Is A Bro Split? Simply put, this is a classic bodybuilding split routine where the muscles are broken up over 4-6 workouts and trained once per week. Are Bro Splits Effective? At the end of the day, any training program that involves enough intensity, volume and that lets you consistently add weight to the bar over time WILL produce gains in muscle size and strength. In that sense, yes, a bro split will most definitely work. However, if your goal is to make the absolute fastest progress possible in the shortest time, then a bro split routine will likely not be the very best approach for you. Bro Split Vs. LPP, UL, Full Body The simple reason why a bro split workout likely won't be the best approach for maximizing gains is because the muscles do not require a full week of rest in between training sessions. In most cases you'll probably only need about 3-4 days of recovery at which point the muscle can be trained again. So by using a higher frequency routine (I recommend legs/push/pull or upper/lower), you'll be able train each muscle more often and still recover, which will allow you to build size and strength at a faster rate. Are Bro Splits BAD? Now, all that said, even though bro splits are not optimal doesn't mean they don't work or that you can't use them. Over the long term, the differences between a bro split or a higher frequency routine will likely be fairly small, and if you find a 4 day split, 5 day split or even 6 day split to be more fun and motivating for you, then by all means use it. It will still produce impressive gains, and if it helps you stick to your program more closely and get more enjoyment out of your workouts then I don't see anything wrong with it.
