How FJD Trion P1 Helped Resolve a Construction Conflict | Building Info Lab

Building Info Lab used the FJD Trion P1 LiDAR scanner to capture accurate existing-condition data for a residential addition project in MD, USA. During construction, the project team discovered that the as-built condition no longer aligned with the permit drawings. The basement/cellar level had already been poured, first-floor framing was in place, and portions of the second floor were already underway. Using the FJD Trion P1, Building Info Lab captured the active construction condition, processed the scan into a colorized point cloud, and brought the data through a scan-to-model workflow using FJD Trion software, Autodesk ReCap, and Revit. The point cloud was compared against the original 2D AutoCAD permit drawings to identify discrepancies, verify the as-built condition, and support an updated 3D model and corrected design documentation. This workflow helped the project team move from uncertainty to measurable field data — reducing rework, delays, coordination conflicts, and potential claim risk.
