On this tour, I'll show you some of the neighborhoods of Ipatinga, located in the Vale do Aço region, 210 km from Belo Horizonte, the capital of Minas Gerais. The tour begins downtown, where the bus station is located. From there, it continues along Macapá Avenue through the Veneza neighborhood. Then, the tour continues to the Castelo neighborhood, home to upscale homes inhabited by high-ranking Usiminas employees. This location also houses the Usiminas Memory Center, a museum-like exhibit on the history of the plant and its institutional aspects. It also features an art collection owned by the company and the restored space that once housed the most important hotel in Minas Gerais. Next is the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in the Cariru neighborhood, whose main architectural feature is its robust exposed steel columns.
