"Yao Linchee," a rare durian variety, fetches a high price of 1,500 baht per kilogram | Good Stories from Across Thailand | July 10, 2026 We are at "Uncle Nid's Garden" in Moo 1, Tambon Chong, Amphoe Nayong, Trang Province, owned by Mr. Sanit Ongsara, or "Uncle Nid," a 65-year-old former forestry official. He cleared over 40 rai of rubber plantation and planted over 1,200 durian trees of four varieties: Musang King, Nam Dam, Mon Thong, and Yao Linchee. The owner said that the main reason he chose to plant the Yao Linchee variety was because his daughter, who had never eaten durian before because she disliked the smell, tasted and enjoyed the Yao Linchee. This motivated him to plant it so that children and those who dislike the smell of durian could have the opportunity to try it. Uncle Nid stated that this year, the Yao Linchee durian trees, approximately 4 years old, from just 3 trees, have started producing fruit, yielding about 30 fruits. Almost all of the produce has been reserved by customers even before harvesting. Priced at 1,500 baht per kilogram. The highlight of the Yaowalitchi durian is its fragrant aroma similar to wild flowers, fine texture, and sweet, creamy taste.
