The past three weeks have seen Asim Khan's family re-live the final moments of the 21-year-old's life. This is the full story of what happened, including details of his killer's trial On August 2 last year Asim Khan would have turned 22. Instead, that day, his family and friends gathered for his funeral. Two weeks beforehand Hamza Khan held his brother as he lay in the street having been stabbed to death during a fight about a spilled drink. "He died in my arms," said Hamza Khan – the elder brother Asim Khan was born and brought up in Grangetown in Cardiff where he went to Grangetown Primary School and then Fitzalan High School. His family said: “Asim was a lovely boy. He was really kind and really sweet." Their mother said Hamza and Asim "got on very well", adding: "They never gave me any trouble." The brothers used to go to their local mosque together. Grangetown community worker Ali Abdi said: "He was a great kid with lots of friends and a family that love him. He was always happy and smiling." Sophie Greenaway, head of sixth form at Fitzalan High School, said: “Asim was an exceptionally hard-working, quiet, and polite pupil. He was incredibly popular with both his peers and staff members during his time at Fitzalan due to his friendly, charismatic, and positive personality.” The night started at Soda in Mill Lane in Cardiff, which describes itself as "one of Cardiff's number one nightlife spots". Hamza and Asim Khan arrived around 11.15pm on July 20 last year and were enjoying a night out with friends. The brothers were outside in the smoking area of the bar when Momodoulamin Saine, who they had never met before, arrived. They were talking and laughing until suddenly the atmosphere changed when Hamza Khan knocked over Saine's drink – a Jack Daniel's and Coke – which was on the floor. The night carried on and Saine left Soda at around 2.45am before making his way to Kiwis bar nearby. Hamza and Asim Khan stayed in Soda until 4am then went to nearby 'Chippy Lane' – Caroline Street.
