Born in Uddevalla, a small town on the west coast of Sweden, Mats-Ove has led an extraordinary life that has taken him from the snowy expanses of northern Sweden to the warm climate of Texas. As a young adult, Mats-Ove moved north to study at the University of Technology in Lulea, earning a master’s degree in management accounting and a bachelor’s degree in jurisprudence. After enduring five years of snow, darkness, and cold, he relocated to Stockholm in 1999 to pursue a career in public accounting, amassing over 35 years of experience in the field. Six years into running his own firm, Mats-Ove took a bold step: he participated in the Green Card Lottery, won on his first attempt, and moved to the United States, 100 years after his great-grandfather had returned from a similar journey. Choosing Texas for its warm climate, Mats-Ove settled in San Antonio, where he rekindled his Masonic connections. A Mason since September 26, 2002, Mats-Ove reached out to local lodges upon his arrival in the U.S., finding a welcoming home at Alamo Lodge No. 44. His Masonic journey in Texas rapidly expanded to include memberships in the York Rite, Scottish Rite, and various other Masonic bodies. He currently serves as the Worshipful Master of Triune Lodge No. 15 and holds numerous prestigious Masonic titles. Mats-Ove’s Masonic path began in Sweden, where the process from first to tenth degree can span up to 20 years. This October, he will achieve his tenth degree in Stockholm, in the historic Baathska Palace, a beautifully maintained 17th-century building.
