The Engine Wouldn’t Fit… So I Cut the Frame (Don’t Tell Lotus!)
Episode 8 of my Lotus Europa rebuild series takes an unexpected turn. What should’ve been a straightforward engine and transaxle install turned into a bit of frame surgery — thanks to the Mountune water pump kit sticking out just far enough to cause trouble. After a little time with the cutoff wheel, the engine finally slid into place… and that’s when I realized it might have fit without cutting at all. Probably. With the engine in, I reassembled the rear suspension, covered the importance of shims for alignment, and walked through the updates to the rear braking system — including the new hard lines and the factory components I decided to delete.
