This is a place for hiking, sports, and entertainment enthusiasts, as well as those who enjoy a peaceful holiday in the middle of the mountain scenery. Špindlerův Mlýn (Špindl for short) is an ideal place for all kinds of winter sports, especially skiing. It is the most important winter resort in the Czech Republic, nicknamed the "Winter Capital of the Czech Republic" or the "Pearl of the Krkonoše Mountains." From spring to autumn, it also offers exceptional opportunities for alpine hiking (mountain valleys and ridges are accessible by the Medvědín and Pláň chairlifts), cycling, and water sports. Since the late 18th century, the town has been popular as a tourist resort, and a massive increase in tourist numbers has been observed since the 19th century. Until the 20th century, spending time here was popular, especially in the summer, and winter sports gradually began to be practiced. Over time, this small town, now with a population of just 1,057, became a major tourist destination, hosting tens of thousands of tourists during the season. What attracts tourists so much? Above all, its excellent location, beautiful landscapes, diverse mountain nature, exceptional climatic conditions, optimal snow conditions, extensive tourist infrastructure, and the resulting wide range of sports and active recreation opportunities. The real tourist bustle occurs during the winter. It is a paradise for winter sports enthusiasts. Špindlerův Mlýn offers 25 km of slopes of varying difficulty. With a single ski pass, you can use 5 cable car lifts and 11 T-bar lifts. Artificial snowmaking ensures excellent skiing conditions for up to five months of the year. The most popular ski resorts are Svaty Petr and Medvědín. The downhill runs on Plán in the Svaty Petr resort meet the standards of the International Federation for Snowboarding (FIS), and European and world-class competitions are held here every year. Špindlerův Mlýn is also an excellent destination for cross-country skiing. Špindlerův Mlýn and the surrounding area offer 100 km of marked cross-country trails. Snowboarders can enjoy snow parks in Svaty Petr and Horné Misečky. From spring to autumn, you can also relax and enjoy active leisure. The Špindlerův Mlýn area offers over 180 km of marked hiking trails. The 150 km long "Karkonošská Magistrala" (Karkonoše Highway) runs along the ridges of the Krkonoše Mountains. Cycling enthusiasts can enjoy approximately 100 km of marked cycling trails. The Svatý Petr complex offers a downhill and dual-track mountain bike trail. Mountain bike race tracks are available for training with the "Na Pláně" cable car. Tennis courts are open daily from May to October, with the possibility of organizing tournaments. The Svatý Petr and Medvědín areas are starting points for paragliding. The Bedrichov district offers a summer toboggan run, offering active leisure time for tourists and athletes of all ages. Children and adults can also play minigolf, have fun on the giant swing in the rope park, or go bowling. Additionally, you'll find a water park and the Water Paradise wellness center. The Labská Dam offers ideal conditions for fishing, and here you can also take a 120-meter ride along the dam on a rope suspended 25 meters high. In spring, whitewater kayaking competitions are held on the Elbe River. You can also explore Špindlerův Mlýn on a comfortable ride on the tourist train (Výletní vláček), with a recreated commentary on the town's history and present.
